I am a huge fan of these books and they have a special place in my heart hardening back to many childhood nights with the more basic "Choose your own Adventure", "Find your Fate", "Endless Quest" and "Twist-A-Plot" books and onward to the more complex ones with dice and character sheets like "Lone Wolf", "Grail Quest", "Fighting Fantasy", "Fate Master", "Eternal Champion", "Golden Dragon", "Freeway Warrior", "Knightmare" and so many other greats!
With that said, Tin man has done a great job of recapturing that feel and most of their entries have been excellent. I worried a bit with the last book that attempted to take the genre into the sci fi realms. Not that I didnt welcome the change from the typical Tolkien/D&D inspired outings, but rather the writing in the last book, while good, left me wanting. I personally think it was perhaps the challenge of both creating a story and establishing a whole new universe from scratch which ultimately made the last book suffer a bit in quality. Regardless, I still think it was a good book, but perhaps not up to the calibre I was used to from this company!
Well no worries here! This is an awesome entry and I personally think the licensed theme helped to give the writer a much more focused attention on the writing quality, rather than also having to create a whole universe as well. the writer captures the tone and feel well and the book, I think, will be a great read even for non fans and a decent primer of sorts to the world and character who champions within it!
So Judge Dredd fan or not, this is a this is a must buy! If you felt slightly let down by Infinite Universe (GB8), rest assured this one redeems it and in some ways feels like a better book than even their other ones! Bravo to the writer and illustrator and bravo to Tin man games for the mechanics tweaks!
Post Apocalypse, Road Warrior-esque, Vampire/Werewolf or Modern Horror/Lovecraftian themes wanted in future iterations please!
